As a producer, Carol Welsman's CD "Alone Together" is the "jewel in the crown".
What a joy it was to produce Carol (whose singing and piano playing is tops) with
Rufus Reid on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, Wallace Roney on trumpet and Jay Azzolina on guitar. Their musicianship is truly inspiring and Carol's versions of these songs should take there place among the very best.
Doug Webb's new Christmas CD is out and available on iTunes.
Doug's Christmas CD is a really wonderful collection of Christmas music interpreted in a classic jazz style. Doug's playing is stellar and I was honored (as I always am) to play with him. I played the piano with a great rhythm section: Kevin Axt on bass and the legendary Roy McCurdy on drums. I also arranged four of the songs for a studio orchestra of some of LA's finest musicians.
I've recently recorded with a lot of good guitar players. In Santo Domingo, I recorded keyboard parts for the blues guitarist, Peter Novelli. The rhythm section included some of the best players in the DR: Guy Frometa on drums, Pengbian Sang on bass and Edgar Molina on percussion. I am looking forward to the release of that CD early next year.
I just returned from El Paso, Texas where I recorded with the El Paso guitar maven, "superstar of the Stratocaster", "luminary of the Les Paul", Bernie Mora and his band Tangent. It was the second time I've recorded with Bernie and both times were great. As on the last Tangent recording, Doug Webb and I recorded our parts and solos in El Paso. Additional horn parts will be written and recorded in LA by Tower of Power horn arranger Lee Thornburg. I can't wait to hear this recording when Lee gets done. He's great!
I am very happy to report that the Spanish language versions of my books on harmony (Armonéa para el músico contemporáneo) and arranging (La voz del arreglista) will be published by UNPHU Music Press in 2016.
And on a completely different note...
I have just finished writing a book of children's poems. I hope to publish them next year.
